Fra-gee-lay. That must be Italian.

Mom made me crispex mix last night while we both watched A Chistmas Story. I love that movie -It really captures the intensity of childhood. Everything is felt in the extreme, because everything is new and fresh. As adults we may chuckle at Ralphie's enthusiaim - but don't you remember when your world was so small -yet every incident in it was so vital. A taunt could destroy me for days. A friendly gesture would sent me soaring with joy. If I was disappointed in anything, even something as small as not getting an ice cream cone -I was devastated. The world was small but, concentrated.
Jean Shepherd does a great job of balancing between laughing at his younger self and respecing the tribal laws that govern childhood. It reminded me that childhood is not so much a time of innocence ,as it is where those smaller people learn to navigate their way through the labyrinth of the world.
Shepherd was quite the fellow and his Bio shows that his work was more varied and influential than just this holiday classic.

Just so you know You too can "win" a major award. Apparently several companies in the U.S. make replicas of the leg lamp. If it wasn't so much money (top of the line about $400!) I'd ask for one myself. What a great conversation piece
I was going to leave you with one of my favorite quotes "In the heat of battle my father wove a tapestry of obscenities that as far as we know is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan."
" In God we trust ... All others pay cash"

I love love love that movie.
so do my kids.
it is a christmas classic, in all it's vulgarities, it's so wonderful.
it's so funny, just the other day, I had Christian pinned down, and was tickling him mercilessly, (he has the greatest laugh), and he whined out "Raaaaaaalphieeee!"
I rolled over on the ground laughing my head off.
